Vintage Walther Glas Cake Platter on Stand – Blue Crocus Pattern, Germany, 1970s

An enchanting cake platter on a pedestal from the well-known German manufacturer Walther Glas, decorated with blue crocuses, the stem shaped like a flower.

The Maker

The company was founded in 1865 near Dresden as “Glasfabrik August Walther & Söhne.” In 1951 the “Horst Walther” works was expropriated in the GDR and developed under the name VEB Sachsenglas Schwepnitz into one of the most modern and leading companies in the GDR’s glass industry. A hallmark of this factory’s work is soft, flowing lines, convex glass patterns and pastel colors on a transparent glass ground.
