A rare find: a handmade and hand-signed ceramic bowl in the majolica technique, painted with a show jumper.
Technique
After the first firing, the motif was painted on with special ceramic colors; the whole bowl was then coated with a transparent glaze and fired a second time at a higher temperature.
The Story
We found this bowl in an old, dilapidated villa in Bad Vöslau, Austria, where we used to live. It lay hidden under stones in a collapsed cellar – next to old jam jars labeled by hand with the year 1936. Hence the dating; the bowl may be even older.
