A small silver-plated milk jug in Historicism style, richly decorated with engraved floral motifs and standing on four delicate paw feet – found at the flea market in Heidenreichstein.
Material & Condition
The jug is silver-plated – a silver layer on a copper or brass alloy (presumably so-called Britannia metal). In one spot on the underside, the plating is slightly worn; the warmer, copper-colored base metal shines through there. The wall shows three small dents – two of them clearly visible, a third very small and barely noticeable in the relief pattern depending on the incidence of light. No cracks, no breaks. The handle and all three feet are firm and stable. Price is for 1 piece.
Dimensions
- Height: 11 cm
- Width (with handle): 11 cm
- Belly diameter (without handle and spout): approx. 8 cm
Style & Use
The finely engraved floral bands and the bead-rimmed curved handle point to the Historicism of the late 19th and early 20th centuries – an exact dating is not definitively possible, so we specify the period as approx. 1880–1920. Suitable as a small accessory for a tea set, as a mini flower vase, or as a single piece in a Grandmillennial or Hollywood Regency interior.
From the Heidenreichstein flea market, hand-picked. Shipped from Austria, carefully packaged.
Heidenreichstein, flea market.
Among tarnished, half-forgotten things, this small jug waited for new hands. Its three small dents are not a flaw – they are the fingerprints of a kitchen where milk was truly poured, morning after morning.
Small dents, honest history.
