A larger Turkish coffee pot – a wonderful brewer for Oriental mocha and Turkish coffee, one of the oldest known methods of preparation.
Background
The pot is called Ibrik (Turkish, from Arabic – a vessel with a long spout) or Cezve (Turkish, from Arabic "embers").
Details & Condition
- Material: copper-plated metal
- Height: 11 cm (4.3 in)
- Diameter: 9 cm (3.5 in)
- Date: approx. 1950s
- Condition: very good for its age; patina in places consistent with age. Sold as is.
Preparation
Pour water into the pot, then add sugar and 1–2 heaped teaspoons of coffee. Stir until the coffee sinks. Heat over a low flame without stirring. When the coffee rises, remove from the heat, let it cool briefly and bring it up 1–2 more times – creating a thick layer of foam.
Uses
For authentic mocha or as rustic kitchen decor – a special holiday gift for coffee lovers.
Care
Hand wash and dry thoroughly.
At the flea market in Eisenstadt the pot stood among brass mortars – we almost thought we could still smell cardamom.
