A small cauldron, just large enough for a flowerpot. Eleven centimeters opening, nine and a half centimeters high, three cast feet, and two ring handles with relief decoration. We found it at the flea market in Eisenstadt.
Shape and Surface
The body is bulbous and flares out at the top into a everted rim. Two circumferential ridges divide it like two tires. The surface ranges between warm brown and light brass yellow – depending on the light, the tone shifts; the yellow glints through on the ridges, while copper brown dominates in the curves. The interior base is bright golden yellow.
Feet and Handles
The three feet are cast individually, leaf-shaped, and soldered to the body. The two ring handles sit in cast holders and feature a delicate relief of blossoms and tendrils – the same design language found on furniture fittings of that period.

Condition – frankly speaking
No dents, no cracks, no repairs. At the points where the feet and handle holders are attached, the solder is visible as a light grey line – this is part of the manufacturing process, but is clearly visible in the close-up photos. The inner base has darker spots and discolorations, and fine scratches run along the rim. The base is curved, and the vessel stands exclusively on its three feet.
Classification
Uniform wall thickness and perfectly regular ridges suggest machine manufacturing. We therefore classify this piece as vintage, estimated 1960s to 1980s, and not as an antique. Without a mark, dating remains an estimate – we prefer to state this rather than claim a specific number.
Use
As a cachepot for herbs, small houseplants, or an orchid in a plastic pot. Also suitable as a container for ladles, matches, or dried flowers. The vessel does not have a drainage hole, so direct planting should be avoided. Price is for 1 piece.
