An oval brass bowl with a finely pierced pattern – bands of vertical slits and eight-petal rosettes, framed by a wavy rim with a beaded edge. Found at the indoor flea market in St. Pölten.

Material & Condition

The bowl is made of solid brass, with the pattern pierced from the sheet metal. The surface shows an even, unpolished patina as well as some age and water stains on the inside bottom. No structural damage, no cracks. With commercially available brass polish, the shine can be restored if desired – however, many collectors prefer the unpolished original condition. Price is for 1 piece.

Dimensions

  • Width: 19.5 cm
  • Depth: 10 cm
  • Height: 4 cm

Style & Use

The geometric pierced pattern refers to Mid-Century decorative art from the 1950s to 1970s. Wonderful as a bread basket, fruit bowl, or tray for keys and small items – the pierced pattern allows light and shadow to play through charmingly, also in Boho or Farmhouse interiors.

From the St. Pölten indoor flea market, hand-picked. Shipping from Austria, carefully packaged.

St. Pölten, Sunday indoor flea market.

Between new goods and old junk, this pierced brass bowl stood with a quiet, older woman who had probably seen many such Sundays. Her neighbors from the next stall were sitting with her.

A piece that knew company.
