A lovely old bottle opener by the well-known German metalware maker WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, founded 1853).
Motif
The handle shows the painting "The Lute Player" by Dutch painter Hendrick Martensz. Sorgh (Rotterdam, 1611–1670), famous for genre scenes of everyday life: a domestic scene with a lute player and a lady. WMF produced a whole series of household items with this motif – letter openers, pewter plates and more.
