Small Porcelain Vase by Graf von Henneberg, Ilmenau – Cobalt Blue with Floral Medallion, Vintage Germany

A very well preserved small decorative vase from the Ilmenau porcelain factory (Graf von Henneberg Porzellan) in Thuringia, Germany. Its color resembles cobalt blue, with a flower on a white background in the center, framed by gold ornaments.

About the Maker

Graf von Henneberg Porzellan was a manufacturer of household porcelain, founded in 1777 in Ilmenau, Thuringia. The name was borrowed from the Counts of Henneberg, to whose county Ilmenau had belonged in the Middle Ages. Christian Zacharias Gräbner obtained the concession to establish a porcelain manufactory in Ilmenau on July 8, 1777 from Duke Carl August of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. By 1980 more than 3,000 people worked in the "VEB Neue Porzellanfabrik Ilmenau." After reunification the plant was privatized, and in 2002 the venerable factory had to stop production forever.
