These antique brass wick trimmers probably date from around 1900 to 1930 and were used for shortening candle wicks. Such candle trimmers used to be standard equipment in households, churches, and inns before electric lighting was widespread.
Typical for this design is the small wick catcher, which catches the glowing wick when trimming, preventing wax or soot from falling on the table or floor. The scissors are partly handcrafted, which can be seen from the soldered feet and the attached collection box.
Today, wick trimmers are primarily used as a decorative home accessory or as stylish accessories for candle lovers. Especially in a classic or historical ambiance, they are a beautiful detail with an authentic character.
The brass shows an age-related patina; the condition is overall very good.
