A decorative and rare porcelain coffee canister with a lid, made in the first third of the 20th century. The canister depicts a romantic scene on the front with a man and a woman in traditional Dutch dress in front of a canal with a bridge and sailboats. Below the image is the old spelling "Café," as it was formerly common in German-speaking regions.
The storage jar has a rectangular shape with rounded corners, designed like small columns that continue into the lid. Originally, these columns, as well as the lid rim and the base of the jar, were decorated with fine gold-colored lines. Over time, some of these decorations have worn away, giving the piece an authentic vintage patina.
The inner rim was intentionally left unglazed during manufacturing to ensure a better lid seal. This results in a slight discoloration along the upper edge, typical of older ceramic jars and considered a sign of authenticity.
This coffee canister is suitable both as a decorative kitchen accessory in a country or vintage style and for storing coffee, sugar, or other supplies. For collectors of antique kitchen containers, this piece is a particularly beautiful example of European household ceramics from the pre-World War II era.
Condition :
Very good condition for its age. No cracks, no repairs. Slight wear to the gilding and signs of age-related use.
