This extraordinary collector's item offers far more than meets the eye. A charming child's portrait is housed in an original, hand-carved wooden frame dating from around 1890. The true secret only came to light upon closer examination: hidden behind the first image is a second, presumably even older, photograph of a young man.
-
Provenance: Photographed in the "Photographic Glass Salon v. Moser" in Floridsdorf (Vienna). The reverse side documents the historical period of 1894, when Floridsdorf was still an independent municipality outside the gates of Vienna.
-
A unique feature: The reverse of the photograph, serving as a "company logo," honors the three founding fathers of photography: Daguerre, Niépce, and Talbot. A rare testament to early photographic culture.
-
Condition: Perfectly preserved. The frame has its original hanging hardware and is still closed on the back with the original nails.
-
Use: A profound object for collectors of Vienna memorabilia or lovers of historical photography, bringing an atmosphere of nostalgia and mystery to any room.
We found this double portrait at a market in Waidhofen an der Thaya. Two faces, Vienna 1894 — a year before everything changed. Who were they to each other? The hand-carved frame keeps the secret.

- Historical continuity: The building that housed the "Glassalon von Moser" in 1894 survived both World Wars unscathed. It is a fascinating testament to Viennese history. The image gallery concludes with a current photograph of this building, bridging the gap between the past and the present.
