This antique Catholic religious image depicts the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist and dates from 1907. The image was given as a gift on the occasion of a baptism in Lower Austria and bears a handwritten dedication with name and date at the bottom.
Such baptismal pictures were a traditional gift for newborns in Catholic Austria during the monarchy. They were meant to accompany the child throughout their life and remind them of the Christian faith.
The picture originates from the municipality of Puchberg am Schneeberg in Lower Austria, a region with a long Catholic tradition. The original wooden frame is still present. On the back is a stamp with the double-headed eagle of the Habsburg Monarchy, indicating that it dates back to the time of Austria-Hungary.
The glass is original, as is the old hanging mechanism with eyelet and cord. Despite being over 100 years old, the picture is in good, collectible condition.
This object is particularly suitable for collectors of religious art, for lovers of the Austro-Hungarian period, or as a decorative piece with historical significance.

Schweiggers, an afternoon with an old dealer. The 1907 baptism picture hung for decades in an Austrian home. The colors are still vibrant — faith sometimes lasts longer than everything else.
