Small Porcelana Schmidt Porcelain Vase, Brazil – Vintage Collectible, 1970s

Just five centimeters tall and yet well-traveled: this small porcelain vase comes from Porcelana Schmidt, Brazil’s best-known porcelain maker. A dainty collectible showing how European porcelain tradition lived on in South America.

The Manufactory

The factory was founded in 1945 by the Schmidt family in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. In 1948 it acquired Porcelana Real and merged the two companies. By the 1960s Schmidt was the market leader in Brazil, and the brand became an icon of the tableware industry. According to the previous owner, this vase was made in a limited edition.
