Vintage Piatnik Patience Double Deck, Miniature, Bird & Floral Backs, Original Box – Vienna 1930s–1950s

A vintage double deck for patience (solitaire) by the famous Viennese playing card factory Ferd. Piatnik & Söhne – in miniature size, so even complex layouts fit on a small table.

Maker & Markings

Inside the lid: the factory address "Wien XIV, Hütteldorferstr. 229–31", the jockey logo and the slogan "die Qualitätsmarke!" ("The Quality Brand!"). The cover cards are printed in English ("Ferd. Piatnik and Sons Vienna") – suggesting export goods.

Design

• Card backs: a titmouse on a blossoming cherry branch, framed in lace – one deck in blue, one in red

• Aces with floral wreaths; the Ace of Hearts bears the Piatnik jockey mark

For patience players, Piatnik and playing card collectors – a cozy holiday gift for long winter evenings.

Care

Store dry.

At the flea market in Heidenreichstein the little box lay in a crate of old photos – the blue and red birds patiently waiting for their next game.
