A wooden bowl with marquetry in its base. The rim is made of machine-pressed wooden rings, glued on step by step – from the smallest at the bottom to the largest at the top. The base shows a handmade inlay in the shape of a wide-open flower.
About the Technique
In marquetry, different pieces of wood are set into and next to each other so that a flat surface is formed again – now with inclusions of different colors and grains. The technique is ancient: cedar coffins in Egypt's 12th dynasty (around 2012–1792 BC) were already decorated this way.

At the flea market in St. Pölten it stood on an old farmhouse chest. The wooden flower in its base glowed as if it had just been laid.
